The Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2025 came into full effect on 1 July 2025, replacing the 2015 Standards. Every RTO delivering nationally recognised training in Australia — including Wyatt Education Group — is now fully operating under the updated framework.
What Changed Under the 2025 Standards?
The 2025 Standards introduced several significant reforms that strengthen the quality of vocational education in Australia:
1. Strengthened Trainer and Assessor Requirements
The 2025 Standards impose clearer vocational competency requirements for trainers and assessors. Trainers must demonstrate both formal qualifications in training and assessment and current industry experience relevant to the units they deliver. This ensures students are trained by people who actually understand the modern workplace.
2. Enhanced Student Support Obligations
RTOs are now required to maintain more proactive student support systems — identifying students at risk earlier and providing intervention before outcomes deteriorate. For CRICOS providers, this aligns with strengthened attendance monitoring requirements under the National Code 2018.
3. Improved Assessment Validity
The 2025 Standards place greater emphasis on the validity, reliability, and sufficiency of assessment. RTOs must demonstrate that their assessment tools actually measure what they claim to measure, and that assessment decisions are consistent across different assessors.
4. Governance and Risk Management
Senior management accountability for RTO operations is more explicitly articulated. RTOs must demonstrate active governance oversight — not just administrative compliance.
What This Means for Students
If you are studying at an ASQA-registered RTO, the 2025 Standards mean your qualification is backed by stronger quality assurance than before. Training is delivered by qualified, industry-current trainers. Your assessment is validated. And if you encounter difficulties, your RTO has formal obligations to support you.
Wyatt Education Group is fully compliant with the 2025 Standards and has aligned all training and assessment strategies, trainer records, and student support processes to the updated requirements.
